2nd December – Christmas Biscuits
Here is our 2nd December question and answer for the Daily in December: Maths Puzzles and Problems series. Have fun talking to your children about this Christmas themed maths word problem.
I have written a post to introduce this series of maths puzzles and word problems: An Introduction.
The answer and methods that I used will also be shared in a separate video (see below).
I hope you and your children have a brilliant time solving this word problem.
2nd December – Christmas Biscuits Question
Help Noel to find out how much of each ingredient he needs to make 15 biscuits. Ask your child to underline the important parts of the question. What do they need to work out first? Discuss this with your child.
You could maybe make your own question like this, using a recipe of your own. Making some Christmas biscuits can also help children to think more about how maths can be used in their daily lives. Plus, it is lots of fun making, decorating and eating biscuits!
This question, or something similar, is one that is a ‘real life’ question type. It is something that your child will need to know how to solve when they need to think about how to work out amounts of ingredients that they need for their individual requirements when making food. It is a useful word problem type to practice.
